The Calgary Municipal Building, often referred to as the New City Hall, is an architectural landmark located at 800 Macleod Trail SE in Calgary. Completed in 1985, this 14-story building stands at 60 meters tall and serves as the primary location for the city's civic administration. Designed by WZMH Architects, the building features a striking triangular footprint and a distinctive silver reflective glass curtain wall exterior.

The construction of the Calgary Municipal Building began in May 1981 following an architectural competition and approval process that started in 1980. The building was officially completed and opened in October 1985. It was built to consolidate various city departments and provide modern council chambers, complementing the adjacent historic Calgary City Hall, which continues to house the offices of the mayor and city councillors.

The building's design includes a central 12-story atrium, walled by concrete and glass windows of employee offices, and capped with a rooftop skylight. The council chambers, housed within a large blue cube on the first floor, have a seating capacity for 300 people and are connected to the historic City Hall via a raised corridor.

The Calgary Municipal Building is strategically connected to the city's transportation network, including an underground LRT station constructed during the building's development. The building also features accessible facilities, including ramps, elevators with voice announcements, and audio-visual traffic signals at nearby intersections.

As the seat of local government, the Calgary Municipal Building plays a crucial role in the city's administration and public services. It houses various city departments, including Community Standards, Fair Entry, Planning and Development, and Property Tax offices. The building also serves as a central point for public interactions with city officials and services.

Overall, the Calgary Municipal Building stands as a symbol of modern civic architecture, combining functionality with innovative design. It continues to be a vital part of Calgary's urban landscape, supporting the city's governance and public administration needs.
