EnCana Place
EnCana Place is a skyscraper commercial development completed in 2012. This project is 58 storeys tall, located at 500 Centre Street SE, Calgary, Alberta.
The Bow, also known as EnCana Place, is a prominent skyscraper located at 500 Centre Street SE in Calgary, Alberta. This 58-storey tower stands at 236 meters, making it the tallest building in Calgary and the tallest in Canada outside of Toronto upon its completion in 2012. Designed by the renowned architectural firm Foster + Partners, The Bow features a distinctive curved design that maximizes sunlight and offers stunning views of the Rocky Mountains.
The Bow serves as the headquarters for EnCana (now Ovintiv) and Cenovus, housing approximately 1.7 million square feet of office space. The building's design includes three six-storey sky gardens that provide natural ventilation and reduce energy consumption. These sky gardens also serve as social spaces, promoting collaboration among employees.
The construction of The Bow was a significant engineering achievement, incorporating a steel-braced diagrid structure that minimized the amount of steel required and provided exceptional structural integrity. The building's facade features over 900,000 square feet of glass, enhancing natural light and reducing the need for artificial lighting.
The Bow is connected to Calgary's +15 Skywalk system, providing easy access to neighboring buildings and amenities. The tower includes a six-level parkade with 1,360 parking spaces, catering to the needs of its tenants. The ground level of The Bow features a public plaza with shops, restaurants, and the iconic Wonderland sculpture by artist Jaume Plensa, which has become a landmark in downtown Calgary.
The development of The Bow was managed by H+R Real Estate Investment Trust, with construction led by Ledcor Construction. The building has received numerous accolades for its design and sustainability, including awards from the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction and the American Concrete Institute.
