The first reading moved the project forward.
"Next steps will see council give three readings to the rezonings before adopting the bylaw changes. Once that is done, the developer’s would have their development permit applications considered."

No demolition of the single-family homes occurred at the site yet. Multiple reports suggest it is a victim of frequent squatters.
Today's news report was about a fire in one of those homes.

Lime Architecture has initiated plans for this new apartment complex on Gordon Drive, with rezoning and development permit applications submitted on January 18 for addresses 1095 Martin Ave and 1443, 1444, and 1448 Gordon Drive. The proposal aims to transform the current RU4 – Duplex Housing zone into an MF3 – Apartment Housing zone, accommodating a six-storey building with 33 units comprising a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments.
39 parking spaces with 48 long-term and six short-term bicycle parking spaces. While details on amenity spaces are still in the early stages, the project promises a rooftop amenity space and 241.5 square meters of common amenity area.

A new article on Castanet about the lawsuit, apparently, a second one, both Mayor Tom Dyas and the city of Kelowna are sued. No updates on the first lawsuit filed in September 2023.
Key point in the case made by 350 Doyle Avenue Holdings and Centurion Appelt, is that Tom Dyas is a member of Kelowna Legacy Group (KLG). The group has different vision for the development site, and it's a conflict of interest. The city is confident that mayor and council acted in the best interest of the city and will defend it's position in court.

I am wondering how it's all going to unfold. The city is looking for a new operator for Prospera Place, as the leasing contract expires in 2029. GSL Group is not ready to give up. The future of the Prospera Place and the towers is unclear.
UPDATE: City of Kelowna will find new operator for Prospera Place

It was announced yesterday for development of the Hotel and Parkade across from the new terminal expansion. Sounds great, but it has already been announced in 2022 and didn't happen, I hope it's not the same fate as the Downtown Hotel.
Big money is in the parkade at Kelowna's new airport hotel
A private company will build a 1,000-stall, seven-storey public parkade at Kelowna’s airport because they’ll share in the lucrative revenues it will generate.

Another building deemed unsafe around the construction site is School District 23. According to the school, there have been significant shifts and cracks identified, so they were forced to move out.
It is worth mentioning the building at 580 Doyle Avenue has been owned by UBC Properties Trust since the end of 2022, but was leased to the online school staff.
Out of the four structures impacted so far, two buildings were supposed to shut down for redevelopment anyway and one wanted to sell to UBC. Only the affordable housing building - Hadgraft Wilson Place is truly worth the worries, in my opinion.

The same developer as the buildings next door - Nolita. Weird they didn't develop the whole site right away or in phases with the same design.
The neighbourhood will be full of 6-storey buildings pretty soon.
